While I am primarily a photographer, I do need to shoot video every now and then. In my search for a way to create compelling videos that have a similar style and look to my photography work, I found Dehancer.
Dehancer is a film emulation plugin designed to give digital footage the look and feel of real film stock. It has some great features that allow to fine-tune the color grading process, while maintaining a natural image.
Some of the tools I enjoy using are:
• Authentic Film Emulations – Dehancer offers a vast library of film stocks, from Kodak and Fujifilm to Polaroid.
• Bloom & Halation – These effects replicate the soft glow and subtle light diffusion found in real film, giving footage an authentic texture.
• Color and Contrast Control – All tools you need for adjusting color, tone, and contrast.
• Grain and Film Damage – For adjusting a grain effect, without overdoing it.
As a filmmaker, I’m always searching for tools that help my workflow, and Dehancer has certainly helped. Whether I’m working on content for social media, an interview, wedding film, or a documentary, Dehancer has definitely elevated my footage, making it more cinematic.
Before using Dehancer, I worked with LUTs and manual grading to achieve a filmic look. While that worked, it often required quite a lot of tweaking. With Dehancer, I can achieve the look I want in a few minutes, and still maintain all the creative control. Hooray for efficiency!
Filmmaking is all about storytelling, and Dehancer helps telling those stories with color, texture, and emotion. I surely recommend it to any filmmaker looking to improve their workflow, and take their footage to the next level.
