You might be wondering:

What is a unique venue for my wedding in Amsterdam?

I can help you answer that question.

In short:

In this article I am going to talk about two one of a kind venues. Droog Amsterdam and Mayer Manor.

You can also check out my full list of 71 unique wedding venues in Amsterdam.

Have a quick look at the table of contents below to get you started. Besides some basic information on Droog Amsterdam and Mayer Manor, I’ll talk about a wedding I shot at these venues just before the world was swept off its feet by COVID-19 a.k.a. the coronavirus.

Let’s dive right in:

Droog Amsterdam – an Artistic Wedding Venue in the Center of Amsterdam

Droog is a conceptual design company.

In 1994 Droog was founded by Renny Ramakers and Gijs Bakker. After a successful design show in Milan the year prior, they felt the time was right to create Droog Amsterdam.

At Droog you can buy the work work of almost every well-known Dutch designer. Designs by Marcel Wanders, Richard Hutten, Maarten Baas, Margriet Foolen, Aldo Bakker, Jurgen Bey, Marijn van der Pol and the list doesn’t stop there.

Droog used to have stores in New York, Las Vegas and Hong Kong as well, but currently only operates the Amsterdam store.

At Droog Amsterdam you can use many different spaces for your wedding. Droog Amsterdam features the following spaces:

Cafe Droog
Great space for presentations, dinners or receptions.

Courtyard
The Courtyard is a room which feels like being outside. It’s the perfect place for a wedding ceremony for instance. Big windows pulling in all the light you need. Beautiful white interior providing a clean and serene atmosphere. The ceiling is covered with blue birds.

Fairy Tale Garden
This space has been designed by French designers Claude Pasquer and Corinne Détroyat. It’s a place filled with natural and artificial artifacts. A dream world that provides all the necessary pieces for biodiversity, attracting birds, butterflies and more.

Wedding Dinner at Droog Amsterdam

Of course you can have an amazing wedding dinner at Droog Amsterdam.

Wondering how many guests you can accommodate for a dinner at Droog Amsterdam?

Have a look at the capacity chart below to see how many people you can fit in which room.

The Wedding of Mabel & Paul

In the days / weeks prior to the wedding of Mabel and Paul, the world started to change rapidly because of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Not knowing how fast things would go at that particular time the wedding continued.

Days prior to the wedding, the Dutch government had decided small events with less than a 100 guests could still continue. That decision would change only one day after the wedding of Mabel and Paul.

Getting Ready at Her Sisters

Mabel was getting ready at the house of her sister who – conveniently – lives in the same street as Droog Amsterdam.

First Look and Some Wedding Portraits

I always love shooting first looks. It’s the perfect way to capture the smiles and tears of joy of the bride and groom. No pressure of a hundred eyes, just the two of them being able to fully enjoy each other.

Wedding Ceremony at Droog Amsterdam – Courtyard

The wedding ceremony of Mabel and Paul was held in the “Courtyard room” at Droog Amsterdam. The father of the bride walked Mabel down the aisle. A very personal wedding ceremony with different speeches followed.

Wedding Story in Pictures

So, you want to know what this wedding looked like?

I typically deliver hundreds of photos with my weddings. I can’t show all of that, because… well let’s not break the internet.

I can however, show you a preview. Dive right in with the preview gallery below:

Wedding Party at Mayer Manor Amsterdam

Mayer Manor is a private mansion with a luxurious Victorian-style. It is located in one of Amsterdam’s cultural streets called the Nes. A very flamboyant venue like you’ve probably haven’t seen before.

Back in 1417 the building served as a home for monks. After this one the largest tobacco merchants in Amsterdam, Nico Mayer, moved into the mansion and it’s name changed to Mayer Manor.

Currently the Mayer Manor is available for all sorts of events with up to 120 people.

The video below gives you a great impression of Mayer Manor.

Accompanied by a Saxophonist

Of course this wedding had to finish in style with a big party at the stylish Mayer Manor in Amsterdam.

To accompany us to the Mayer Manor, saxophonist Jurienne played some great tunes while the guests walked through Amsterdam by night.

Time to Party

Finishing this lovely night we all the guests partying in the basement at Mayer Manor was really nice. Definitely a night and a wedding to remember.

To Summarize

Although times were strange because of the coronavirus setting foot in Europe, this wedding was definitely one to remember for other great reasons as well.

The venues picked by the bride and groom show they have a great eye for artistic locations. Both Droog Amsterdam and Mayer Manor are different – in a good way – than anything you’ve seen before.

I would love to shoot more weddings here, so get in touch if you are thinking about using one of these venues for your own wedding.
